Celebration

Hello bloggers,
I Hope you are very well. Today we will write about a special celebration.
I remember one in particular for New Year’s Eve in 2005. My husband’s brother visited us with his girlfriend and a couple of friends. They were going to travel to San Juan, in Argentina, for New Year’s Eve.  The Argentinian friend, Andrea, said to us on the 30, “why don’t you come with us?”
So there we went. We stayed at Andrea’s house in San Juan. Her family were really nice and we felt really welcomed. When the 31 first came, we got to this party were there were around 100 people. It was an open area full of tables under the stars. All the people were really friendly to these people who they did not know. We laughed a lot, danced, and drank champagne with a bunch of strangers who were nice to us. It is funny how we can connect with people and it is all about the energy we all project.
When it came to dinner time, the starter for every person was “half a chicken”, yes, “half a chicken per person. I couldn’t believe it.  When we said we did not eat meat, they said, don’t worry and they brought us a whole huge fish. I am not sure which fish this was but it was gigantic.
It makes me think how Argentinians can eat. Wow, it was amazing.
What about you?

Free post

Dear all,
Since it has been 2 weeks since I last saw you, today we will have a free post.
Think from anything from concrete to abstract.
Minimum 220 words and a comment on 2 blogs where you have not commented before and one on this or any blog. :)

I think today I will refer to an emotion or feeling.  This is fear. I thought of this because it is a feeling that seems very present in a lot of adult people and it frustrates me a bit.
First of all, I think a good amount of fear is a good thing. It helps us avoid accidents, especially when we are kids. At that point we are fearless. The way parents can keep us safe is by  warning us of all the bad things that can happen when we act independently. This is understandable.
The issue is when you grow older and all these fears continue to be present. And I think many times these  relate to personal confidence but also to what society tells you on a regular basis. Things like "everything is dangerous", "people can be bad"," there is risk everywhere".
I am all for daring to do things and challenging those who fear, ideally with a bit of evidence on where there is a real risk. Having said this, I know there is risk in some activities or behaviour, and I have felt it.  However, one has to be cautious, not fearful. I think there is a lot more regret in not trying than in  doing stuff and perhaps failing.

What about you? How do you feel?

Post Sept 12

Sorry I could not join you today.
As we are about to have a break, I thought today we could write about how we feel about this. For me, "18" is fantastic because there is a chance to rest. I remember when I was little, I loved going to the fondas, however, today I think they are overrated. I remember them being a nice show of traditions and culture, today I feel it is all about spending money, everything is overpriced and honestly, I find it too crowded. I don-t like the idea of queuing for ages to buy a drink or anything.
I suppose as a vegetarian all I have to do there is drink, and that takes the joy away.  I once went to a vegetarian-vegan fonda but did not enjoy it as much because there weren't,t any traditional games. Last but not least, I am not a nationalistic person at all so I enjoy cultural activities but not the idea of being Chilean as opposed to from a different place. Having said this, I am not saying I do not acknowledge  cultural differences.
So far my plans are as follows:
On Saturday I will give my exam for my Pilates mat certification and will celebrate that and my birthday. On Sunday I will celebrate my birthday again with a little tea.
During the week of 18 maybe I will go to the beach for a day or 2 but most probably, I will spend most of the time tidying up my apartment and separating things I do not need to give away or get rid of. Last but not least, I will probably drink a fair amount of wine and beer, too.

what about you?
what do you like, dislike about the national holiday?
is there anything you dislike?
what are your plans for this 18?
Mention anything else you find relevant.

A job you would like to have

When I think about a future job, there are 3 things that come to mind.  An animal rescuer, a teacher in a rural school and a pilates instructor.
All of these jobs to me are about helping myself and others. I'll refer to animal rescuer since I looove animals.
I think you need a lot of qualities to do this job, first of all a lot of sensitivity and patience, also some instruction into first aids and nutrition,. Lastly, some training on how to deal with wild animals. Other than that, one needs a lot of money since these animals need some space, infrastructure, food and also medical treatment quite often.  My dream would be to buy a big piece of land so all of them could run and play with each other.
Today I will refer to the first one first. I have always loved nature and animals. One of my dreams would be to have a rescue center for stray cats and dogs that walk the streets, go through a lot of rough experiences with insensitive people, and certainly need care and affection.

The satisfaction would be quite high since knowing that there are fewer animals in the streets  and being taken care of, would certainly make a difference in my life. It would make me very happy

Moreover, I think all animals and creatures in our world are amazing. I think humans can be very arrogant thinking that because they are more intelligent, they deserve more care. I think we are all on this planet for a reason. We need to show respect and care for one another. In this sense, all the disappointments I have had with humans I know I could never have with animals.

greateset Chilean

In your opinion, who is the greatest Chilean of all time?

Today I will write about Elena Caffarena. I don't think she is the person I admire the most but certainly lots.
She was born in Iquique in 1903 and died at 100 in July 2003. Her family moved to Santiago when she was a teenager and they started a socks and tights company in the area of Recoleta. She was an active worker but when she finished secondary school in Liceo N4 in Recoleta, she joined the law faculty at Universidad de Chile. She became part of the workshops for people with fewer opportunities and resources. She was part of the students’ union in 1922 and turned into a student leader. She became a lawyer in 1926 and travelled to Europe to do a postgraduate degree. However, she decided to enjoy the arts there. In Europe, she got to know Gabriela Mistral and they became very good friends. She got back to Chile in 1929 and very aware of what was happening in England with the “suffragettes, she founded the first movement for the economic, political and biological emancipation of women in Chile. As a lawyer, she always fought and defended the interest of women.
She married a  lawyer and had two boys and a girl.
I think all she did was and is important, especially considering the position she was in and the times she lived at.

If I had the chance to meet her, I would ask her if she feels that women’s rights in Chile and the world are what she forecast for this century.

Say:
Who it is,

What he/she did,

Why this person's deeds are important,

What question you would like to ask this person if you met them.

Mention anything else you think is important.
